Testimonials/LinkedIn Recommendations

Denise has worked with me throughout my 10-year tenure at Humana, as a colleague I supported in Corporate Marketing and then as my director on two different teams. I have always been impressed by Denise’s marketing knowledge, professionalism, and leadership. She knows the full range of marketing disciplines, from advertising to direct response, strategy to analysis. Denise is also gifted at building high-performance teams from the ground up. I saw her do it twice! By the way, she is great to work with — creative and witty.

Betsy Shirey, Communications Consultant at Humana

Denise has been a trusted, insightful business partner since I began at Humana in 2004. Her intellect, excellent writing skills and 100% focus on the experience of consumers have brought much respect from within Humana but also with our members nationally. Denise is a warm, deeply intellectually curious and compassionate marketing, communications, and data driven professional. I have enjoyed partnering with her in a number of capacities, including but not limited to Humana’s Corporate Marketing and Direct Response teams.

Jennifer H. Moeller, Director, Member Engagement, Marketing & Communications, HumanaVitality

Denise is a visionary senior leader who creates, builds, and aligns her teams for success. I’ve been fortunate to be on Denise’s team twice at Humana, working with her in Regional Marketing and more recently in Direct Response Member Communications. Denise has established herself as a pioneer of creative new programs that offer innovative solutions. A quintessential teacher, she energizes those she leads enabling them to flourish.

Teri Olivier, Consultant in Direct Response Marketing focused on Member Engagement

I worked directly under Denise on the Humana Proactive Team as a Design Manager. Denise was a terrific team leader who always developed and encourage her team to develop and grow. She was a inspiring leader and was great at team building as well as driving business solutions for organizational results. I enjoyed my time working with Denise and learned a great deal about the organization from her.

Melinda Childress Med, RRT, AE-C, MSO Provider Consultant, Medicare Risk Adjustment

I highly recommend Denise in a senior leadership role in a marketing, consumer behavior/experience, or healthcare environment. Denise has great strategic vision with a proven track record to build and lead newly formed or existing teams successfully. Denise’s strategic vision, leadership, extensive brand and marketing background, coupled with her ability to drive development and execute strategies, lend Denise to be a valuable asset to any team and company. Martha Redman, Experienced B2B and B2C Integrated Marketing Communications Professional

Having worked for and with Denise in a variety of roles for over a decade, I have found her to be an exceptional marketing executive and business leader. Denise is trustworthy, outcome driven, and the type of leader that inspires the best in her team and business partners. In a highly dynamic, fast-paced industry, I found tremendous value in Denise’s business acumen, strategic thinking, and instincts. Denise builds win-win partnerships and she is a calming presence in an industry typically dominated by Type A egos. Denise Damron, Managing Principal

I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart, so after a successful 30 year career in strategic leadership roles in marketing and advertising I took the plunge and started my own business in 2014.  New Moon Marketing Communications is the fulfillment of a dream I’ve had for many years to take the experience and knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career, and use it to help other dreamers, like me, achieve their goal of owning and running a small business.

Some of the companies I’ve worked with include Humana Inc., Fox Television, Sheehy and Associates Advertising, PriceWeber Marketing Communications, and United Way. My education7 includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Political Science, a Master’s Degree in Marketing, and I am currently a PhD Candidate in Communications.  My interests are varied, from photography to travel to writing a recently completed young adult fantasy novel.

My career

Throughout my career I’ve been involved in launching several first-ever initiatives, including a new United Paramount Network affiliate television station and the first local television website for a Fox network affiliate in 1994.  I led the media launch of several pioneering medical procedures, including the first lung transplant, the first artificial heart bridge-to-transplant procedure (performed by Dr. William DeVries), and the first cochlear ear implant.

While working for Humana, a Fortune 100 company, I launched several company firsts, including an online health insurance product for small businesses, a full line of first-to-market consumer driven health plans, and the new Medicare Advantage (MAPD) and Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) introduced to Medicare beneficiaries in 2006.

In addition to new product launches I specialize in new program development. I created Humana’s first Medicare member loyalty and retention program, Humana Active Outlook.  Taking off on the existing general health education magazine, HAO, this award-winning program was created after doing extensive research with seniors to understand their health challenges as they aged.  The program includes a specialty publication, Live It Up! Digest, that contains disease specific health information, a series of local classes and seminars, and a website containing educational health content and on-line classes.  To further build a relationship, each member received a birthday card and a holiday card featuring original artwork.  Specialty products were produced for family members including the The CareGiver Kit , for family caregivers, and the LifeKeeper Kit, to house vital end-of-life information. The program is still running strong today in its original form, and you can learn all about it at

In my advertising agency work I served as a senior leader, working with a diverse group of clients. I assessed each client’s individual needs, quickly learned about their products, services, and competitors, and created business-building marketing strategies and tactical programs.

I have earned Copyblogger’s “Certified Content Marketer” designation by completing advanced coursework and passing a detailed review of my work.  Copyblogger Media, one of the preeminent marketing and blogging resources for bloggers, is a digital commerce company with more than 200,000 unique customers founded by Brian Clark in 2006.

Industry Experience

In addition to working with several Fortune 500 companies I have worked with small to medium-sized businesses.  Some of the industries I’ve worked with include the following:

Appliance manufacturing; banking; broadcast television; casino gambling; Catholic Archdiocese; fast food; convenience store; grocery; health care (hospital, health insurance, physician, wellness); home builders association; horse racing, lottery; manufacturing; non-profit/fundraising; orchestra and the arts; paint manufacturer; property development and real estate; retail; social services; stock brokerage/financial services; tool manufacturer; tourism; utilities (water, gas & electric).

My Philosophy

My passion is getting into the mind of the consumer to create innovative, enduring marketing programs that drive businesses forward. Coupled with my strategic perspective and creative instincts, I develop unique and lasting programs that set businesses apart from competitors.  Three words that describe me are: perceptive, expressive, and intuitive. I am a prolific idea-generator. I stay focused on the end goal, have a deep understanding of human nature, and know how to influence people with rational thinking and emotional feeling.

My colleague Christopher G. Padgett, PCC, CPCC, Principal & Executive Coach
Growth Revolution Inc., expresses what it’s like to work with me:

“If growth and profit are critical to your organization’s success, you really need to have a conversation with Denise Damron at New Moon Marketing Communications. I’ve known and trusted Denise for over a decade and have consistently found her to be valuable. She’s tackled and succeeded at some of the most complex marketing challenges. Denise is an exceptional marketing strategist and communicator. She brings her “A” game to every interaction and I have always found her thoughtful and strategic approach refreshing, powerful, and effective. “

Giving Back

Showing gratitude and giving back to causes that are important to me and to my clients is an integral part of my philosophy and business model.  That’s why I created the 5-10 Give Back Program. This program allows me to support organizations that do good work for animals, children, women, our health, and our planet. All my clients take part in selecting which charity receives their 5-10 Give Back.  Additional activities, such as signing up for my blog, allow everyone who does business with me the opportunity to give back.

Connect with Me

My blog, The Marketing Imagination, features original and curated content, and was borne of the notion that good marketing takes a vivid imagination.  It’s about making connections others may not see. It’s about taking chances and risking failure.  It’s about encouraging you to push the limits of creativity and innovation, coupled with the ever-present need to take action.  Each article endeavors to shine a light on new marketing ideas while encouraging you to apply a new way of thinking to your own business.

Subscribe to the monthly blog if you’re looking for a different perspective on how to market your business. Contact me at to discuss how we can work together to achieve your business dreams.
